Sony Handy cam HDR-UX7 DVD Camcorder

Sony's highest-level AVCHD camcorder this year is USD1,299.99 HDR-UX7. It improved in the HDR-UX1 last year first performance (review, Specs, recent news, USD729.95) altogether with bigger 1/3 inches 3200K G.Pixels ClearVID CMOS sensor while retaining its senior’s microphone jack and the manual control. UX7 loses the multi-purpose ring control, changing it with a smaller – and less comprehensible - dial. The HDR-UX7 continues Sony’s high-class user camcorder style of late which is to introduce an primary model with plenty of pleasing characteristics and then follow up with latest camcorders that develop in imaging but drop some of the characteristics that made the first appearance so striking

Sony moved advance when it replaced the much praised HDR-HC1 (Specs, 2295) with the HDR-HC3 (Review, Specs, USD969.99). The HDR-HC3 did have some imaging development but drop the ring power and the microphone lever. We touched Sony overboard throwing off the professional properties that gave fame to the HC1. The properties on the UX7 show that may be, Sony is answering to those consumers who want greater than a punt-en-shooter for their 1000USD plus amount. Whereas the HDR-UX7 changes the ring with a dial, the microphone lever remains. Further in our full review, we will clear the query of whether the HDR-UX7’s enormous imager creates it a worthy advance, or if it is something to “sidegrades” we have seen all too frequently at the user end.   .

Features

Sony is pushing this camcorder and the HDR-HC7 as fusion skilled at taking the best still photographs, as a result of theirs big CMOS sensor.Looks like the HDR-HC7, the HDR-UX7’s characteristics lists its stills resolution as being capable of 6.1Megapixel.Other sizes are: 4.6Megapixel, 3.1Megapixel, and 0.3Megapixel. Unluckily, also like the HDR-HC7, the HDR-UX7 doesn’t offer MP ranges for these sizes. We are acquainted with that the 4.6Megapixel stills are widescreen whereas the other sizes are all typical 4:3 feature.

6.1 Mega pixel is a remarkable resolution on record. If color has also enhanced over the dull tones of the UX1 (USD730)’s stills, the hybrid capacities of the UX7 can be worthy selling point. In our full review of this camcorder we will comprehensively appraise its stills.

Each of the manual features offered in video recording mode are presented in still capture form, that include AE shift, WB shift, exposure, and focus. Unluckily, since HDR-UX7 doesn’t possess manual shutter speed control for video recording, still photography mode doesn’t offer this feature. Shutter speed setting to both video recordings and still photography is offered on the HDR-HC7.

Video Performance

The Sony HDR-UX7 is available with the same 1/2.9inche ClearVID CMOS sensor (3.2 Mega pixels) of Sony's top-end consumer HDV camcorder for the year 2007, the HDR-HC7 (USD1128.56).This sensor is an advancement of the UX line. This is the most important factor in distinguishing between the HDR-UX7 and her sister’s buck the HDR-UX5 which has a 2.1 Mega pixels CMOS.We wait for seeing superior stuffs from the 3.2 Mega pixels sensors that also appears in the HDV HDR-HC7. Though, we also look forward to see some dissimilarity in the performance of high-end high-definition camcorders

When we do the analysis of the HDR-UX1 (USD730) last fall, in both the camcorder’s Full and Standard Definition recording styles. We came to know about the fine class color features and sharpness in open light that closely matched the astral video recordings of the HDR-HC3 (USD969.99). Sharpness and color features are remarkable. With a spanking new compression algorithm, AVCHD, to compress a large HD image down to 12Mbps at its maximum bit rate, the UX1 gave a noise. The noise problems are sharp and rise to worse at the lowest levels of illumination. For the time being, AVCHD simply can not compete HDV for the overall image quality because HDV has a higher fixed bit rate of 25Mbps. The larger imager should enhance results, but the AVCHD will still affect picture quality.

Low Light Performance

We guess the HDR-UX7 better performance than the HDR-UX1 in low light; it is because of its 3.2 Mega pixels imager. In spite of the noise issues, UX1 sustained much of its color and resolution reliability to 60 lux, and transformed into a respectable photo to 15 lux. While we suppose AVCHD’s increasing pains to improve over time, it remains whether the HDR-UX7 big imaging features will have a great effect on the camcorder's low-light noise, though it should get better in light gathering sensitivity.
