Sony HDR-UX7 Camcorder Review
|
The HDR-UX7 is the Sonys
best DVD camcorder, a 1920 x 1080i high definition powerhouse equipped
with an extraordinary imager and maybe the best behavior of any Sony
this year. The body is bulky, in spite of the good slim-down from its
forerunner, the HDR-UX1. The weight may deserve it. The top model
acquires all the supplements: a microphone jack, earphone jack, large
3.5 Liquid crystal display, and a beautiful small button on the face
for plucking readjustments. Does this characteristic-loaded camcorder
deserve the USD1, 000 rates? Lets check.

The HDR-UX7 is able to
shoot still photographs only to Memory Stick in the coming sizes: 6.1MP
(2848 x 2136), 4.6MP (2848 x 1602), 3.1MP (2048 x 1536), and VGA (640 x
480). Pictures can be captured in Fine or Standard quality. In Video
mode, still pictures can be saved to Memory Stick at the same time when
recording movie to DVD in two sizes4.6MP (2848 x 1602) and 3.4MP (2136
x 1602). While the HDR-UX7 bears the capability to take reasonably large
6.1MP pictures, it deserves stating that this is an extrapolated image.
A camcorder having a one chip can not really develop any longer
resolution than the count of pixels thereon chip. The UX7 comes
outfitted with 3,200,000 pixels, building the 2048 x 1536 image the
native resolution. Whichever still images larger than that have been
extrapolated. This means when the image is in large size, it does not
bear any more data than the 3.1MP image.
Almost all the manual
commands presented in Video mode also exist in still image mode, letting
in the Cam Control dial. In plus to manual controls, the HDR-UX7
characteristics a Red-Eye Reduction adjusting and Self-Timer function.
The HDR-UX7 is outfitted
with a flash positioned on the left face of the lens. The flash can be
adjusted to Normal, High, or Low levels. There exists no Self-Timer or
Burst mode. Yet, on a camcorder pitched for high definition video
recording, still images ought not to be estimated to be the HDR-UX7s
strong suit.

We examined the Sony
HDR-UX7s still photograph quality by photographing a GretagMacBeth
Color Checker graph and playing those still images by the Imatest
imaging software to find out color accuracy, noise, and saturation. At
the best, the camcorder was capable to acquire a color error of 6.69,
which is preferably good. The noise level assessed 1.708% and saturation
evaluated 107.6%.
|
|
In order to acquire these
scores, we should lower down the exposure by one increment. While you
will never find it or be capable to control these elements directly, the
EXIF information disclosed that in Auto mode the camcorder employed an
opening of f/3.4 and a shutter speed rate of 1/60. Turning down the
exposure one level changed the aperture to f/4.0.
The still photographs
appeared very good. Sony in general handles to develop brilliant images
with good sharpness.
