Sony's remarkable HDR-HC7 is among the group of three HDV camcorders; other two are the HC3 and the HC5. All of them take pleasure in fame with serious operators since they features superb picture and sound quality with an extraordinary practicality and handiness.

First Impressions

It is the reality that the HC7 has a lumpiness that renders it bettered strength when handholding throughout shooting and this thing also makes it perfect for putting on a tripod. It has been gifted with a complete group of approachable controllers - though they are mostly spread between manual buttons placed around the main structure and automatic buttons imbedded into the menu structures as displayed on color wide screen Liquid crystal displays and Liquid crystal display touch screen controls. The HC7 needs its operator to be well known with the utility of touch-screen control.

HDV or DV tapes can be loaded in the camcorder from the top. Hence you can insert or remove tapes still sitting on a tripod without removing it. Buttons and connectors all are at the location where they must be for effective functioning. The numerous connectors needed for digital & analog signal transfers are handily hidden at the back of the plastic doors and flaps of the structure. Also warmly received is the placing of Liquid crystal display frame-side controllers with touch-screen control icons, that means that many important works for example Record Start/Stop and Zooming can be performed by your left hand employing the controls placed on the Liquid crystal display frame; the cam also features a very little 0.7inch color viewfinder which draws out horizontally. It does not seem practical in the first impression.

Features

The HC7 presents both HDV and DV recording and replay styles. It employs Fire Wire to link to either a pc for editing, deleting, modifying and exporting as 1440 x 1080 resolution HD. The operators have got the extra advantage of analogue-to-digital signal changeover to DV. This camcorder can be employed to record, in addition to playing back, standard DV.

During recording standard DV, usual 4:3 and widescreen 16:9 modes are presented for that purpose. These modes are presented with the number of manual control functions for example aperture, white balance and focus. You can perform this task by using the camcorder’s touch-screen panel.

Similar to many other Sony models, the HC7 employs a 1/2.9inch CMOS, despite of a charge-coupled device. Optical zoom ratio is 10:1 with the fullest lens of 5.1mm.

Consistent with the Sony standard for detachable memory cards, the cam offers a slot for a Memory Stick DUO. Hence it is doable to record movies on both to tape or memory card.
