Sony HDR-FX7 Camcorder Review
|
Sony
classified its product, the HDR-FX7 to be a customer choice, in spite of
the really un-consumer MSRP of USD3500 and a very consumer choice shape
and manual control suite. Ah, was it only with the intention that public
shopped by imposed types. Rather, naturally, they shop by cost, and
Canons XH A1 (USD3280) creates a very winning competitor at a simple
USD500 more. How can Sony fight? The FX7s ClearVID CMOS sensors builds
a outstanding effect in shining light, but in low light circumstances
the result falls to pieces.

The FX7 has a delighting,
handy experience and satisfying image commands, but the XH A1 provides
very much access to the controls. The XH A1 bears a lot of outstanding
audio characteristics whereas the Sony FX7 does not; dropping XLR inputs
and external audio level control systems. We admire the HDR-FX7. It
belongs to a good class, enhancing in several features as compared to
the HDR-FX1, and coming back to the DCR-DVX2100 and even XV1000. However
in a competitive market, it just can not hold a candle to its main
rival.
Features
The still image
characteristics on the HDR-FX7 (USD2600) are pretty Uncomplicated, but
suitable to the jobs of the ordinary FX7 operator. However Sony, if not
all makers, have fully loaded the still characteristics in their
camcorders in the previous some years, no body would think this an
alternate for a still camera. The still features on a model like this
must fulfill the demands of a movie maker, that is to say the stills are
mainly practiced as references for short set-ups. Above all, they should
be comfortable to shoot and uncomplicated to get at.
|
On the
HDR-FX7, still shoots are recorded to Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick
PRO Duo cards, which load on the left side in the cover below the Liquid
crystal display hollow space. It offers still images in four different
sizes, these sizes are 640 x 480, 640 x 360 (16:9 ratio), 1080 x 810,
and 1440 x 810 (16:9 ratio) and two forms for images, Fine and
Standard. No clear video mode / still mode separation feature is
offered, as there is offered in the case of the Canon XH A1 (USD3280).
However, stills can be recorded at any time, it doesnt matter what kind
of mode is active (recording or Camera mode). This shows that all manual
controls you have got in video mode (that is., shutter speed, white
balance, and all that.) will be reassigned over to the still photo.
|
|
Thus, the still
functionality completely fulfills the easy to shoot, easy to access
demands. To run stills, first turn the mode dial to Videocassette
recorder (VCR) mode. Now, the camcorder intelligibly cannot run stills
and video together, so you must toggle backward and forward within
modes. The approach may possibly be clearer. As it stands, we just
continued pressing buttons up to the time we made out to solve how
Assignable Button no. 4 (tagged as Play), which is present in the
Liquid crystal display cavity. The images will cover up the whole Liquid
crystal display screen, and can be moved forward and backward by
pressing the Volume/Memory + and buttons. Why they could not have made
functions easier by putting that command to the Rewind and Fast Forward
buttons is an unknown. By thumbing Assignable button no4 (the Index
button) reduces the images to thumbnails.
Performance
The
still performance results of the HDR-FX7 were, as expected, average.
Thats fine, although. As stated above, the most significant feature you
require in the technique of photo shooting on this camcorder is pace and
comfort of function. No one would carryall around this 3 pounds.+,
1.2megapixel-shooting machine and call it an alternate it for their
digital still camera. Excuse us, though, as we perform our jobs here and
give it the look-over
