Sony DCR-TRV480 Camcorder
|
Sony launched its
high-class Digital8 camcorder in the running year at CES. Excluding a
latest color system and memory mode, the DCR-TRV480 has not developed
greatly from previous year’s DCR-TRV460(USD300). The camcorder still has
the features of the same 20x optical zoom lens with 290K effectual
pixels, while its digital still ability, and backward congeniality, are
friendly and novel skins for this medium. You can record 640 x 480
stills on a Memory Stick Duo. Backward congeniality enables the operator
take pleasure in and to upgrade older video recordings. Happy memoirs
from past and present can be shared with no bother. |

Video Performance
Sony’s Digital8 imagers
have declined during the previous two years. This model, the DCR-TRV480,
has specifications similar to previous year’s DCR-TRV460; it features a
1/6 “CCD with 290K effectual video and still pixels characteristics.
While analyzing at 3000 lux the camcorder generated a picture with noise
and slightly washed colors. The chart looked like a slightly tangled,
showing that the colors were not very much distinctive. Last year’s
model experienced the same problems but showed strong yellowier and
greener shade effects, whereas the DCR-TRV480 creates much powerful blue
and purple effects. It is significant to know that these Digital8’s
performance and results are comparatively better than many MiniDV
camcorders. While the camcorder creates pictures same to that of the
DCR-HC21 (USD330), Sony’s low-class MiniDV camcorder, the DCR-TRV480
still does not offer colors as lively, however sound levels are the
similar. In addition, the Digital8’s deficiency of a manual white
equilibrium option truly hinders the camcorder’s capability to create
high-class gray-scale. However, if desiring to save some money, the
DCR-HC21 and the DCR-TRV480 images don’t have the difference as in the
prices. Be informed that the DCR-TRV480 is almost twice the dimensions
of the DCR-HC21.

Ease of Use
Sony’s Easy Mode has made
the DCR-TRV480 easy to use. In Easy Mode the automatic features can be
regulated swiftly and precisely. Troubles create when a daring one
chooses to manage the quality standard of the captures; he should search
in the menu system. It is hard to constantly record and look through the
menu system without compromising the taken image. Unluckily the
substitute of hiding buttons below the LCD can be evenly disturbing.
Still with these operating difficulties the camcorder is quite simple to
run, because depending on an automatic command is perhaps the best
possible thing to do in this matter anyhow.

Features
The DCR-TRV480 shoot and
record still images on a Memory Stick Duo. The operator can approach
memory mode by pushing the mode button on the rear of the camcorder and
putting in a Memory Stick Duo in its expansion slot, positioned at the
backside of this model. Digital still images can be captured in two
characters, Fine and Standard, also in two looks, Field and Frame. Field
is function to adjust the jitter that takes place when photographing a
moving target, whereas Frame is employed to record nonmoving matters in
superiority. Like to last year’s DCR-TRV460 this model can take MPEGs at
dimensional proportions of 320 x 120 and 160 x 112, while still
photographs are shooted at just 640 x 480. Widescreen is not an
executable choice in Memory mode, but all manual commands are offered in
Memory mode.
Resolution
The DCR-TRV480 is the
solely Digital8 camcorder with the power to shoot still images on a
Memory Stick Duo. As noted, this model shoots still images in Field mode
which adjusts the jitter when exposures are captured of a moving matter,
whereas Frame mode is hired to shoot nonmoving targets at superiority.
Still images were taken and analyzed with standard resolution table and
apply Imatest Imaging Software to find the camcorder's actual
resolution, but each analysis required a spectacular increase in
vulnerability to keep clipping on the edge. Equal to 8410 lux of light
was aimed towards the table, and still Imatest identified clipping. At
their best, still images captured in Field mode exhibited a literal
resolution of 0.092 mega pixels. The still images shooted in Frame mode
created an actual resolution of 0.104 mega pixels.
Performance
Noise remains on the
digital stills in shining illumine circumstances as it behaved with the
video recording. The still images were captured in Field and Frame
modes; both modes exhibited alike results and defects. The colors were
washed out and the picture was blurry as it experienced in this year’s
and last year’s video functioning analysis. The only obtrusive
dissimilarity between the two Field and Frame is that the Field still
caused somewhat noise to a greater extent than the Frame photo. The
cause for this variation is that Field mode is designed to control the
jitter induced by moving matters, whereas Frame’s function is to shoot a
nonmoving object in superiority.
Low Light Performance
Since a user most probably
run it in less than minimum light situations, the DCR-TRV480 was carry
out changing low illumine circumstances (i.e. 60 lux and 15 lux). At 60
lux condition, which is somewhat low than almost usually lightened
offices, the camcorder exposed a significant rise in grain. Like last
year’s DCR-TRV460, the colors are deficient in liveliness. This model
gave stronger blue and purple effects whereas the senior model makes
stronger green and yellow effects. On the whole, effects were like to
last year, as anticipated.
The color scheme of this
model is a optical metaphor for this apparently exposed medium; the
shining metallic silver structure keeps the hybrid touch screen which is
difficult but “telling” for a Digital8, whereas the dark no-style gray
contains the Digital8 system. The most exciting invention for this model
is this camcorder’s power to photograph still images onto a Memory Stick
Duo. The camcorder however bears the similar 20x optical zoom lens along
with 290K effectual pixels in its structure as its former two
forerunners.
The less manual control,
particularly manual white balance, is disturbing. Sony remains on
offering a way out for Digital8 fanciers, but makes no effort to offer
their operators with sufficient ways of managing the quality of the
picture. Digital8 still acts as a medium whose time is passing. No
matter, Sony peculiarly persists.
