Sony DCR-SR90 (HDD)
|
The DCR-SR90 (and the
DCR-DC100) was Sony's contender into the developing Hard Disk Drive
camcorder market in the year 2006. Is it a comparable to JVC's GZ-MG505
HDD camcorder?
In the
year 2006, Sony announced the first of camcorders that features the
potentiality to record not on only to tape or DVD but they also give the
consumers to record on internal high-capacity Hard Disk Drives in a
format of MPEG-2. That is mostly linked with DVD video recording. The
first company in the history to start the utilization of Hard Disc
Drives in the camcorders was JVC.

Whose increasingly growing
series of Everio G camcorders (for instance the chief camcorder of that
group, GZ-MG505 30GB camcorder) has headed a growth in the way we are
starting to record, access, modify and replay digital movie clips. It is
clear that the time of MiniDV tape is coming to an end, but what role
will the tape less camcorders for example the Sony SR90 at present play
in the upcoming time of digital video science?
First impressions
To begin with, it
feels beautiful to carry in hand. It is to a certain extent weighty,
stocky and rough. Its has the beautiful two-tone brushed aluminum and
dark grey body. The HDD compartment locates on the right side of the
physical structure. The stereo microphone points are upwards.
The battery is located sideways onto the backside of the
body under the color viewfinder, to the right side
of which is place the main Power / Function dial and red Record button.
On the left, and under the 2.5inch wide screen color Liquid crystal
display, the AV / Universal Serial Bus / DC-in connectors rest backside
a flap, in front of which there is the Backlight and Nigh Shot toggle
buttons. The 20x zoom ratio f1.8 Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T* lens barrel
carries a inbuilt lens shutter in addition to a stills camera flash
light, and on the upper side of the body can be seen a detachable
accommodation which will hold an elective 5.1 Surround Sound mike.
Apparently, hence, an imposing looking camcorder certainly, and
perfectly poised for wide-ranging hand-held recording.

Features
Open the Liquid crystal
display screen and a group of buttons are exposed in the body inlet. Not
just the DCR-SR90 presents an Easy mode for easy operation but also
presents a button that makes it comfortable to burn your recorded movie
clips. Also to be received is the 4:3 / 16:9 mode chooser button making
the switch from usual rectangular and widescreen ratio simply
practicable. Furthermore, the SR90 presents Zoom and Record buttons on
the external side of the Liquid crystal display screen frame, which is
very helpful. |

In plus to the 30GB hard
disk drive storage capability, which can allow for over seven hours of
recording in the format of MPEG-2 at the largest of the quality
resolution adjustments and as much as 20 hours 50 minutes at the
minimum, the cam features a function named Smart Protection, which
employs a "G Sensor" to instantly close the hard disk drive system
should the cam be caused to an unpredicted fall. This saves the disk
heads from damage.
The
SR90's 800,000 gross pixels single 1/6” HAD Charge-coupled device gives
400,000 pixels resolution in 4:3 mode and 310,000 pixels in 16:9
widescreen movie modes, with 3.0 MP stills when saved to the inner Hard
Disk Drive. The Liquid crystal display screen gives touch-screen
control, which is very useful for menu selection but a little Hazardous
when performing manual adjustments during recording. It is helpful for
adjusting Spot Focus and Spot Metering - just touch the portion of the
picture to be utilized in the setting and the result is there.
