Sony DCR-IP5 Camcorder Review
|
Sony's most recent
launchings into the camcorder world are the IP series is the MicroMV
format. Sony's USD1, 300 DCR-IP5 Network Handy cams is just like a
matchbox, straight and flat camcorder, can make recording of MPEG-2 onto
the latest MicroMV tapes.
The
IP5 features a 680K pixel Charge-coupled device (CCD), has the
capability of recording 500 lines of resolution. On the other hand the
Charge-coupled device (CCD) just records 380K pixels. The camcorder
offers two types of zooms i.e. a 10x optical & 120x digital. This
camcorder does not offer an earphone jack, or a microphone input jack.
Its minimal lux is valued at 7.

The weight of the
camcorder is 12 oz, having width of 1 7/8 inches, height of 4 inches,
and length of 3 1/8 inches
The IP5 is a very small
camcorder, shaped for consumers who are searching an ultra-stocky. The
camcorder is slender, with the Liquid crystal display screen on the left
side and the electric battery on the right side of it. The 2.5 inches
Liquid crystal display pivots s so you can record movie of yourself, no
featured in most camcorders, the Liquid crystal display screen can folds
up and out, rather than out and up. Adjacent to the electric battery,
nearby the face of the camcorder, exist in / out ports. These ports are
of USB, MicroMV's special FireWire, Composite, and the Direct current
Power connector.
The Liquid crystal display
screen can pivot out, swing around and fold back. The Liquid crystal
display screen is a touch sensitive, and it is helpful to move in the
menus and the functions offered in the camcorder.
Over of the Liquid crystal
display is a tiny zoom controller and a recorder button. At the rear of
the camcorder exist a color viewfinder, which is drew back so as to be
used. The main power button shifts the camcorder from video recording
mode to VCR mode, to Network / Memory Stick mode, or turns off the
camcorder. In the rear of camcorder there exists a videotape eject
button. The mike is placed at the top of the body of the camcorder
towards the rear side. This is actually awkward as probabilities are
there of touching the mike during shooting video, producing unneeded
background noise.

The camcorder is available
in the market with Movie shaker. This is the Sony's consumer video
editing software program. Thought the camcorder uses Fire wire, it is
not simpatico with offered Fire wire. The camcorder can hook up to the
computers with the help of existing Fire wire ports. Offered video
recording programs have not power to record the particular MicroMV
Firewire.

The MicroMV format shoots
MPEG-2 video, and also has the power of keeping 1 hour of video.
Digital8 and MiniDV camcorders give 25MegaBits/sec for video recording.
On the other hand MicroMV just affords 12 Megabits per second. The
MicroMV videotapes have 64KB of Memory for keeping index data related to
the subjects of the tape.
The
DCR-IP5 is pocket-sized. The camcorder is specially shaped for the
casual user who is not involved in recording quality video. The
camcorder is very small in size, it is difficult to shoot unwavering
video with it. It looks not good on a stand. No mike in or earphone
jacks are linked with the mike. This shows audio is to some extent out
of your command. The video quality is no doubt bad than other digital
camcorders of its category. I would not advise this camcorder having a
high price of USD1,300 except in the case if you are looking for a small
sized camcorder for any particular purposes for example for spying
purpose. There are many camcorders present in market in small sizes that
can shoot on MiniDV at best quality having good functions and at a low
rate. Finally, the DCR-IP5 is an appliance that I would not advise.
