Sony DCR-DVD508 Camcorder Review
|
The DCR-DVD508 is no doubt
the Sonys high class definition camcorder for this year 2007. It
substitutes the DCR-DVD505 (USD665), which did fine last year. Sony has
equipped the newly camcorder with an even more knock-down CMOS sensor
and optical image stabilization features. Although high definition
camcorders have fascinated the vision of the technical community, there
is a yet a huge call for for standard def. The best DVD camcorder offers
simplicity of function with outstanding results, and the DVD508 is
predicted to bear.

Features
The highlighting of
the DCR-DVD508s still characteristic set is that it can shoot still
photographs equal to 6.1MP (dimensions of2848 x 2136), in plus to 3.1MP
(dimensions of 2048 x 1536) & VGA (640 x 480) in Fine or Normal
standards. Images can only be taken onto Memory Stick Pro or Pro Duo
cards. The DCR-DVD508
is outfitted with a flash placed on the left side
of the lens. The flash can be adjust to Normal, High, or Low brightness
levels, and run in Auto or Manual mode. The only other still
characteristics on the DCR-DVD508 are a Red-Eye Reduction option and a
10-second Self-Timer feature. Although other models among this cost
present more still characteristics, for instance bar graph and ISO
adjustments, the DCR-DVD508 takes the largest images.

Performance
The still functioning of
the Sony DCR-DVD508 was examined by photographing a GretagMacBeth Color
Checker graph and playing the stills by Imatest imaging software to find
color accuracy, noise, and intensity.
At the best, the
DCR-DVD508 was capable to attain a color error of 7.55, which is on the
positive side of average throughout the camcorders we have examined this
year. Most of the error seems to be occurring from over saturation
entirely anticipated for a Sony user camcorder. The noise existed a
little more eminent than ordinary at 1.72 percent. The saturation level
evaluated 110.2 %.

So as to get these best
scores, we had to let down the exposure one increment by hand. Although
you will never discover this on the camcorder, the EXIF data of every
photograph exposes the core data. While functioning in Auto mode, the
camcorder was employing an f/3.4 aperture & a 1/60 shutter speed. When
we lessen the exposure one increment, the aperture closed down to f/4.0.
In practice, the stills
appear well. You would not want to substitute your devoted still camera
with the DCR-DVD508, but for a few occasional shootings, it should do.
