Panasonic HDC-DX1 First Impressions
Camcorder Review
|
The
Panasonic HDC-DX1 is a latest camcorder. It employs the AVCHD recording
format. It saves on DVD disk and still images to SD and SDHC cards. Same
to its sibling the HDC-SD1 (USD1120) the HDC-DX1 saves recording in
1440 x 1080, anamorphic video that is compacted employing the H.264 AVC
codec. Dissimilar its tiny sib, the HDC-DX1 is a large camcorder due to
the DVD system and electronic viewfinder (EVF). The weight of HDC-DX1 is
approximately 800 grams along with the battery which is nearly double
the mass of the HDC-SD1. Despite the fact that it is valued less than
the HDC-SD1 at USD1399, the HDC-DX1 features more characteristics that
video fanciers are searching as if the EVF and accessory shoe.

It is really unlucky that
these worthy characteristics were gifted in a camcorder that just
records level best quality AVCHD for thirteen minutes on a single-sided
DVD, needs a minute to format a new disc and six to eight minutes to
complete a disk that can only be performed when on AC power
incidentally.
Video Performance
The image quality of
Panasonics AVCHD is neither good nor bad at the 13 Mbps bit rate that
the HDC-SD1 (USD1120) records in its best quality mode. The HDC-DX1
(USD1120) records at the similar bit rate therefore I anticipate the
video caliber to be the similar as all the imaging glass and circuitry
is similar. Since I could not take out the movie from a DVD to my
laptop computer, I was not capable to make a direct comparison or place
a model video for more examination. Seemingly, you require the software
program that you get with the camcorder to move the video to a pcs hard
disk so as to run it or edit it. Since popping a DVD into my laptop
computers DVD drive did not let me get at to the movie files, even with
ISOBuster. The computer guessed the disk was empty whereas it functioned
well in the camcorder.

Low Light Performance
The low light functioning
and result of both the latest Panasonic AVCHD camcorders is an addition
because three 1/4inch Charge-coupled devices were employed to attain a
low light sensitiveness of 6 lux. I was not capable to perform greatly
low light photographing because of the restraints of the display
cubicle. Even so, the dim fields I was capable to shoot appeared very
fine on this camcorder.
