Panasonic AG-HSC1U First Impressions
Camcorder Review
|
The
AG-HSC1U is advertised by Panasonic as the smallest professional HD
camcorder, and its USD2099 price also makes it one of the most less
valuable. The proclamation earlier this year received with doubt because
the latest cam is exactly like the HDC-SD1, a consumer AVCHD camcorder.
On the other hand, there are three major dissimilarities between these
two models. The major one is that the fresh camcorders color is tuned
to cope with the calibration of Panasonics professional cams. The
second difference is that the HSC1U is received with a 40GB SD/SDHC for
storing video files from a card though working in the area that then
works as a DTE. Eventually, the body of the HSC1U has a black lusterless
coating. |
|
We received the HDC-SD1 to
be a remarkably shaped model having few defects for users searching a
primary camcorder. However professionals operate in different way, and
might find this camcorder good for functioning in close situations, in
conditions that demand a durable, no-moving-components device.
Video Performance
We anticipate the
Panasonic AG-HSC1U to function almost identically to its consumer
opposite number in all regards except color depicting for the reason
that the camcorders are mechanically same. Both are outfitted with a
3-Charge-coupled device imaging arrangement that has 1/4inch sensors,
all having a gross pixel number of 560,000 and 520,000.
In our 3000 lux trials,
the SD1 developed a fine-looking picture that was almost the same in
quality standard and sharpness to this years HDV camcorders. Color
balance was better than normal. The AG-HSC1U must develop a less
saturated picture for the reason that professional camcorders are
fine-tuned for precision dissimilar to consumer camcorders that are
planned to make dazzling color. On the SD1, we saw that manual white
balance was somewhat greener as compared to the other camcorders in its
category. It will be sensible to presume that the AG-HSC1U will enhance
this functioning because its color calibration is towards professional
appliances.
The
AG-HSC1U records AVCHD instead of HDV. In all the AVCHD camcorders we
have examined plus the SD1, we have noticed more graininess than
received in HDV. AVCHD compression makes motion artifacts in the shape
of mild trailing.

Low Light Performance
The SD1 delivered a
comparatively weak showing in low light conditions, and the AG-HSC1U
must function identically. Shooting color chart at 60 lux in auto style,
the SD1s light collecting capability was maximized with gain
automatically raised to +18dB, and the picture was rather grainy.
Dissimilar to other compact HD cams, the AG-HSC1U cannot be lowered to
under 1/60 by manual way without taking the assist of the MagicPix AE
preset. Thats designed for professional operators; the deficiency of
manual shutter speeds below 1/60 is an amazing skip.

|
The
SD1 developed a peak of 50 IRE at 14 lux. Evaluating the noise level and
color accuracy at 60 lux, the SD1 displayed a noise percentage of 0.63
and a color error of 11.8. The noise percentage at 60 lux was less for a
consumer camcorder; however the color error is an alarm to be regarded
for any low-light professional application that the AG-HSC1U may be
utilized in.
