Canon DC20 DVD Camcorder

This camcorder of Canon that has a one CCD, wide screen, extraordinary image and an audio feature. That is devised to undertake Sony and Panasonic direct

One of a fresh variety of smart, ultra-slim and very cool looking camcorders that use 8centimeter DVD discs, other than the tape. We have come to relate with Canon, the DC20 and its characterized lowest DC10 companion model is a simple-to-operate, best-quality camcorder. It is made especially for home video learner. With many 1st time operators who now opted the disk over tape, it is a question of the correct time, correct place for canon? Having long since discarded analog video overall, it is fair to believe that those two "Direct to DVD" creations may not be Canon’s last ones.

First Impressions

The DC20 facilitates to operate the small 8centimeter DVDe-R and DVD-RW blank discs for video, plus mini SD cards for digital Once a newly purchased disc has been inserted into the right area of the section of the DC20 the new slim line camera body, they are ready for functioning. This formation of disc is not a time consuming process, and is needed to record on the empty surface possible. Therefore, it is an easy task to make a record; Turn a switch into the camera mode, open the 2.5 inches TFT LCD screen, and push the record button at the back of the camcorder. On first experience, the camcorder might not be simple to operate and more comprehensible. There is not anything more for you to note to get started, and before you know it you have recorded a video scene onto DVD.It is manufactured in such a design that it feels very comfortable in the hand and all the functions & buttons, that you are expected to use are at hand.

Mostly controls are on the left side of the slim body.

Features

The DC20, similar to its DC10 brother, is capable in the specifications whereas the features are not burdened with the kind of gadgets that you never use. Besides a fine 10x opt. power zooms, video mode offers footage on DVD (DVD-R disc offered) and still photo shoots on a mini SD card (not offered). When the DC10 has a CCD, the DC20’s little bigger 1/3.9” CCD has a total resolution of 2.2 MP, which is equivalent to 1.77 MP for films and 2 MP (Digital stills). It is one of the extra features that the camera’s 1.77 MP resolution gives extra pixels for the needs of the electronic picture stabilization (DC20 only). This matches up to with a video resolution of 850000 pixels (film) and 1.23 MP (photographs) on the DC10 camera.

Three recording features are given – XP (20 minutes), SP (1/2 hr.) and LP (1 hr.).

While using a 1.4 Gigabyte capacity 8centimeter DVD disc as given with the cam. The two models provide still images in JPEG digital photography at three parameters and output sizes of 1280 x 960, 640 x 480 pixels on the two cams, with an extra 1632 X 1224 pixel option on the DC20 while taking it on a mini SD card. Besides the typical 4:3 screen feature ratio, the two models give 16:9 mode, which is turned on by a switch on the left part on top of the LCD screen. Quite extraordinary, the DC20 presents complete analog (AV) input & output potentials via a 10-pin connector AV carrying video, S-Video and RCA audio plugs double remote. With these features, it is possible not only to run the sequences to television or an external recorder, but also to save external video means on DVD disc in the camcorder.

The camcorder menu controls can be controlled by the menu button on the left hand side and are operated by a small lever controller close by. The menus are plainly and sensibly conceived and lie out, but can be a bit clumsy to drive initially. That joystick is also used to operate the thumbnails of clips saved in the LCD / viewfinder. Where they can be reorganized and / or removed on the whole. It also enables us to generate a Play list clips before watching or copying.

Performance

The DC20 is a one that records compacted video data in MPEG2 format on DVD more willingly than being a digital camcorder tape. The DC20 go beyond potentials, that its image sequences are very high-quality in effect of both usual 4:3 and wide screen 16: 9 screen ratio modes. In the open light the camcorder create fine images in high-contrast setups. Color (in PAL, of course, rather than NTSC) has a red prejudice, which was clear in taking images of autumnal leaves against a blue sky, but these colors wash out a little after MPEG2 compression. This proved to have a benefit on the appearance and movie when watched on television.

The navigation features enable us to access to the recorded clips to save or erase them.

The camcorder is designed in such a way to provide satisfactory operational control and performance. It is possible to play the recordings on almost any DVD player or computer with easy to operate menu control or transfer MPEG format video sequences to general editing software like Ulead Video Studio and Pinnacle Studio before publishing and export to other formats. Supplied with the product are Sonic MyDVD (Windows), Digital Video software, plus a few Apple Mac applications.

Conclusion

No doubt that there are problems regarding the editing of the MPEG2 video files resulting from the recording of a DVD.There's no doubt that many operators will praise the capability to record directly to the same format as is used in home set-top recorders as the preferable option. Offered the excellence of picture and sound of the DC20, combined with the facility by which DVDs can be created through integrated software. It has to be concluded that this and its sibling model are a step forward on the road to a tapeless future for consumer video. Good stuff. These cameras are as a step towards more creations in a tapeless future of consumer video.
